BSW STUDENT CURRICULUM 2023-2024

Description of Curriculum:

The Department of Social Work is designed to prepare students for entry level social work positions as generalist social work practitioners and graduate programs. The social work curriculum includes one hundred twenty (120) semester credit hours of course work and field practicum. The curriculum consists of two components: the pre-professonal requirements, scheduled generally in the freshman and sophomore years; and the professional courses, completed in the junior and senior years of study.

The general core curriculum consists of forty-four (44) hours of general education core requirements. The major course requirements consists of seventy-six (76) semester credit hours in eight basic social work curricular content areas: Social Work Values and Ethics; Diversity; Social and Economic Justice; Populations at- Risk; Human Behavior in the Social Environment; Social Welfare Policy and Services; Social Work Practice; and Research. The Social Work Program does not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience . The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Additionally, students pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work degree must be accepted into the Social Work program; complete all major courses with a grade of C or better; complete a 400 hour Social Work Internship and pass the Social Work Comprehensive Examination.
